 Martin and Hazel Quarrier are small-town fundamentalist missionaries sent to the jungles of South America to convert the Indians. Hazel is terrified of the Indians while Martin is fascinated. Soon American pilot Lewis Moon joins the Indian tribe but is attracted by Leslie's young wife, Andy. Can the interaction of these characters and cultures, and the advancing bulldozers of civilization, avoid disaster?

 EN. A coming of age story of a boy, Turi (Ernandes) and his younger sister, Teresa (Guarrasi) on an island off the coast of Sicily. Using mostly non professional actors in a neorealist style, this film creates a charming and seemingly authentic slice of village life.
The slow naturalistic pace, beautiful photography, a sense of the local customs & values, and a captivating performance by Veronica Guarrasi as Teresa make this well worth seeing. The director seem to have captured the end of childhood and the start of adolescence.
IT. Turi e Teresa sono figli di un pescatore che vive e lavora in un'isola siciliana. La loro e una vita semplice e pacifica, fatta di abitudini e fatiche quotidiane: accudire la nonna, pescare, gestire il bar al centro del paese.
Ma Turi, ormai, e quasi un uomo e deve iniziare ad uscire in mare con il padre.
Questo fatto finira con il rivoluzionare per sempre i rapporti tra fratello e sorella.
Lungometraggio d'esordio di Costanza Quatriglio, trentenne palermitana la quale non dimentica le sue origini documentaristiche e le innerva con una narrazione che sembra rimandare al cinema di matrice iraniana. La trama e molto esile e il film e legato a un lavoro di ricerca di sguardi e relazioni con la scabra struttura dell'isola di Favignana. Il montaggio, perfettamente sintonizzato con la colonna sonora musicale di Paolo Fresu, prova a fornire compattezza a un'opera prima che, pur con qualche intellettualismo di troppo (vedi la presunzione di poter pensare di fare a meno di una struttura narrativa solida), lascia ben sperare per il futuro.

Ernst Stein (Rolf Ludwig) used to be a classical actor in the East German stage, but he was so disgusted by the use of his country's soldiers to help put down the 1968 freedom movement in Czechoslovakia that he walked off the stage in the middle of a performance of King Lear. Since then, he has been living in seclusion in his country house, surrounded by young admirers. Nothing, it seems, will deter him from living as he pleases now, certainly not the tanks that rumble past his door; mere soldiers attempting to break into his home present almost no challenge to him. He continues entertaining his young friends with impromptu performances in the grand style, and they engage in lively banter in a difficult to understand Berlin dialect. Like this film's leading character, director Egon Gunther walked away from his career in disgust, and emigrated to West Germany and freedom. The reunification of Germany allowed him to work with old colleagues for the first time in ten years, and this film was received with great appreciation when it was shown at the 1991 Munich Film Festival.

 A lonely police detective tracks down a crazed child murderer. The movie develops both characters equally well. Most of us would be drawn more to the depiction of the killer as an aberrant type. He is well played as a person lost in his own world, with no friends, selling fresh fish, and drinking alone, unable even to ask for the check at one point, due to his acute inwardness. Our detective discovers the nude body of a young girl in the woods, the work of our killer. Unlike other films of this kind, this one moves (or plods) along at an absorbing pace, giving time for the detective to develop a relationship with an equally lonely school teacher. At one point, while they are making love, the killer is busy with another victim.
